When our CEO Micah Matthews brought Cohen’s story to our attention, there was no hesitation.

We were in. At just 15 years old, Cohen Rappleyea was diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, a diagnosis that sent his family into an immediate and intense battle. The Swinging Fore Cohen charity golf tournament was organized to rally the community around Cohen and his family during one of the hardest seasons of their lives.

Bud Matthews Services was proud to serve as a Gold Sponsor for the event held June 25th at Lakewinds Golf Course in Rougemont, NC. Two of our own team members laced up their golf shoes and hit the course alongside two of their friends, representing Bud Matthews with heart and showing up for a cause that truly matters.

From 12 sign-ups to more than 80.

Just three days before the event, only 12 people had signed up. By the time tournament day arrived, more than 80 people had shown up to stand with Cohen and his family. That kind of response says everything about this community.

One of our team members shared that the most moving moment of the day came when Cohen’s mom spoke about their experience — how frightening the journey has been and how overwhelmed with gratitude their family feels. As a parent himself, he couldn’t imagine what they are going through. Her words stayed with him long after the last putt was made.

Because that’s what neighbors do.

Together, the community rallied and raised over $10,000 for Cohen and his family. Every dollar is a reminder that he is not fighting alone. We are cheering Cohen on every step of the way. 🎗
