Bud Matthews Passes the Reins to Son, Noah

Posted on: June 22, 2021

The Bud Matthews brand began 40 years ago with Bud himself – a Chapel Hill native who cared about his community and had a knack for home improvement.

In 1981, when Bud started working in Chapel Hill homes—repairing appliances, installing HVAC systems, and making homes more comfortable and efficient—he didn’t know that his company would still be going strong four decades later. Many of Bud’s early customers are still his customers today, as are their family members. When they want to install a new tankless water heater, we’re their guys. When they need their gas fireplace repaired, we show up ready to work. In that sense, not much has changed at Bud Matthews Services. We’re still locally-based, family-owned home service specialists who care about our clients and their homes. We’re honest. We love talking face-to-face with our customers. And we value a job well done.

But like all things in life, Bud Matthews Services has gone through some changes, too. For one thing, Bud is enjoying his retirement (in a home recently renovated by Bud Matthews Services, of course!). He’s also enjoying spending lots of quality time with his grandchildren. With Bud relaxing into retirement, the day-to-day operations of Bud Matthews Services are now being handled by Bud’s son, Noah.

A resident of Briar Chapel, Noah has proudly helped to carry the Bud Matthews business into the new millennium, and he loves the Chapel Hill community his father helped to build. Here are some of the ways Noah has changed the Bud Matthews brand while still staying true to its values:

He’s growing the Design/Build side of Bud Matthews.

While he remains fully committed to all the great services Bud Matthews is known for—from appliance repair & installation to plumbing—Noah is also deeply passionate about transforming people’s spaces through architectural design. That’s why he’s worked hard to establish Bud Matthews as a known and trusted Design/ Build company. Bud Matthews Services will work with you from initial design consultation all the way through the finishing touches on your beautiful new kitchen, bathroom, or outdoor living area.

He’s finding new ways to connect with the community.

Like his father, Noah is always looking for ways to give back. Most recently, Bud Matthews Services created a native plant pollinator garden at Chapel Hill’s Willow Oak Montessori (Noah’s three kiddos helped with the installation!). Noah also collaborated with Fitch Lumber and Carolina Supply to create the frame for a giant shade cloth that will greatly reduce the water needs of Cure Nursery, a Pittsboro-based native plant nursery. And recently, Noah pledged $10,000 in construction services to the new Pittsboro Boys & Girls Club.

Because he wants to connect with the Chapel Hill Community both in person and online, Noah is also working with KV Creative Content to expand the Bud Matthews online presence with updated Facebook and Instagram channels (follow us to stay in touch!). He has just joined the Chapel Hill-Carrboro Chamber of Commerce, too, and looks forward to connecting with fellow members.

We’re so excited to still be growing and changing, and we’re grateful that you’re a part of our journey.

Best,

The Bud Matthews Team

“Many heartfelt thanks to the people I talked with on the phone late this afternoon who were concerned enough to send Pat over to check on our frozen pipes and dripping shower. Pat was so kind and professional and fixed...”

– Rindi

“Bud, I want to send my thanks to your company and especially to Scott. He got into more than he bargained for on our project yesterday. He went out and got different parts and went the extra mile to make...”

– Dave W.

“They were professional, honest, and cleaned-up after their work, and even took the shop-vacuum around the living room for good measure (we have a GSD - say no more)! Nice folks.”

– Judith A. – Pittsboro, NC

– Gloria C. – Carrboro, NC

“They replaced a number of parts in my old Maytag dryer. It has been very reliable for 26 years and I want to keep it rather than buy a new one. Works great now!”

“Repair people were punctual and cordial. They troubleshot a problem, trying different approaches when the first try didn't work to clear the line. They explained everything they were doing as they did it while we watched. They were very efficient...”

– Diana B. – Efland, NC

“We were very happy with the process and outcome. Noah was very responsive. If he couldn't answer his phone when I called, he quickly returned calls. Everyone was very polite and respectful. They did a great job. Noah made good...”
